Get your TikTok videos ready because Taylor Swift is breathing new life into the "old money" aesthetic that dominated our FYPs over the summer.
Last week, Taylor Swift attended her pal Emma Stone's Poor Things movie premiere in New York City looking beyond sleek and chic in an all-black 'fit that feels like a big departure for the star, who typically sticks to more colorful ensembles or warm, rich plaid textures with a preppy vibe.
Swift wore a slim-fitting black bodycon dress that hit right at her ankle, pairing it with black peep-toe slingback heels and a gorgeous black faux fur coat trimmed with Mongolian lamb fur at the collar and cuffs. (It's the Penny by Charlotte Simone, one of the It-girl brands, and there are only 225 available; only the medium is currently in stock.)
Whereas the prior "old money" TikTok aesthetic was all about skirt suits and Blair Waldorf-inspired preppy looks, Swift's Poor Things coat is giving "your snobby young stepmother" á la Meredith Blake from The Parent Trap, especially when paired with the winged liner and red lipstick. Is this a hint about the forthcoming Reputation re-record, or was Swift simply feeling a little goth and glam? TBD!
Swift wore the coat with loose, romantic waves and her signature red lip, of course. You can't see it, but underneath the curly fur trim, she was rocking a fun red and green holiday manicure — a slightly less "old money" look, of course, but a super fun and authentically Swiftian mani for sure. A few nights later, she was back to her typical preppy vibe in a plaid mini alongside her BFF, Selena Gomez.
If you're looking for holiday party or New Year's Eve inspiration, why not take a page from Swift's book (or is it a songbook?) and glam it up in Upper East Side-esque faux fur coats and glam black gowns? Of course, Taylor Swift does have the money, but the rest of us mortals don't need heirloom family jewels or Birkin bags to craft a killer look.
