Taylor Swift might be a mastermind, but Travis Kelce managed to really surprise her when it came to proposing.
Swift has had a whirlwind few weeks as she chose her first podcast interview to be with Travis and Jason Kelce on New Heights, got engaged to Kelce, and then released her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl. Swift shared images of the proposal on Instagram on August 26 and received more than 37.5 million likes. The photos featured Kelce on one knee with a ring in his hand as Swift stands in front of him (in a Ralph Lauren dress), grabbing his face.
As part of her press tour for The Life of a Showgirl, Swift stopped by The Graham Norton Show in London to talk about the album and her upcoming nuptials. During the interview, which aired on October 3, Swift revealed how Kelce surprised her and said that the photos she shared on Instagram were, in fact, the real moment Kelce asked her to marry him.
“He really crushed it when it came to surprising me,” Swift said, before explaining that before the proposal, she was filming the New Heights episode with the Kelce brothers.
“We filmed the podcast for about three or four hours or whatever, and meanwhile, behind his house, he was having the whole back garden turned into this," she continued, referencing the endless flowers that appear in the photos. After she shared photos from the proposal, eagle-eyed Swifties noticed the headphone indentations on her hair and pieced together that it was the same day as the New Heights record.
One of the questions on Swiftie's mind was how they got the photos of the exact moment Kelce proposed, which the singer said was all part of Kelce's plan.
“One of the things he put in there very strategically was a wall of hedges that weren't there before and inside the hedges was my tour photographer. Hiding in bushes that had not previously been there,” Swift said. “He went all out. 10 out of 10.”
She continued: “It's really fun that we have the exact moment.”

Taylor Swift also sidestepped any specific questions about the wedding and how big it would be. When Norton asked her if she's getting married next year, Swift jokingly said, “Oh, you'll know," and said that she'd invite Norton. The musician then said she's not currently planning the wedding because she's focusing on promo for her album. “I think the wedding is what happens after that,” she said. Swift also said she's “excited” to plan the wedding and joked that “anyone I've ever talked to” would be invited.
