America's sweethearts are making it official. Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are engaged after two years of dating.
Swift announced the news with an Instagram carousel (a collab post with Kelce) of photos of Kelce on one knee in a beautiful garden. The caption read simply: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨.” On her IG Story, Swift added the song “So High School” as the soundtrack.
The photos also included a close-up of the ring. (Oh, and you can still purchase her engagement photo dress.) The news comes after a big few weeks for Swift, who announced her next album era on Travis and Jason Kelce's New Heights podcast. Travis and Swift talked candidly about their relationship and what they're drawn to each in each other.
“I've told you this, as much as you want to give New Heights credit, I give The Eras Tour credit," Kelce said. "I give The Eras Tour credit because if I would have never gone to that show and been mesmerized and just been captivated [by you] and then left with such a desire to want to meet you, I would have never [gone] on here and told everybody how butthurt I was [about you not getting my friendship bracelet]. I had never just been so engulfed in the curiosity of who you were.”

It's been a whirlwind romance for the high-profile couple, who are both at the top of their professional game. Their relationship began in summer 2023 after Kelce tried to give Swift a beaded friendship bracelet with his phone number on it during the first leg of the Eras tour. He wasn't able to make the delivery happen at the time, but the two linked up shortly thereafter and began dating. Swift made her first appearance at a Kansas City Chiefs game on September 24, 2023, hanging out in the box with Kelce's mom Donna. Later, she told Time that she and Kelce were already together by the time she made her first public football game appearance and jetted off in his car afterward.
“This all started when Travis very adorably put me on blast on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell,” she shared in her Time Person of the Year interview. “We started hanging out right after that. So we actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I’m grateful for, because we got to get to know each other. By the time I went to that first game, we were a couple."
Unlike Swift's ultra-private previous relationship with actor Joe Alwyn, who she dated for six years, Swift and Kelce were open about their relationship, attending each other's concerts and games, going out for dinner dates in New York City, and kissing after the Chiefs won the Super Bowl. (Oh, and that Hollywood kiss after her show in Argentina — you know the one.) “You want to keep things private, but at the same time, I’m not here to hide anything," Kelce shared in summer 2024. “That’s my girl. You know what I mean? That’s my lady.”
Kelce also addressed his girlfriend's mega-fame, saying, “The scrutiny she gets, how much she has a magnifying glass on her, every single day, paparazzi outside her house, outside every restaurant she goes to, after every flight she gets off, and she’s just living, enjoying life. When she acts like that I better not be the one acting all strange.”
Swift won the hearts of the Kelce fam and Kelce's teammate Patrick Mahomes, with Ed Kelce calling her “a very, very sweet, very charming, down-to-earth young woman.” Basically, the two quickly became America's sweethearts; when Swift attended a game, viewership went way up, and when Kelce did something cute in the audience at the Eras tour, it went viral almost immediately.
Their romance also made its way into Swift's oeuvre. The musician changed the lyrics of “Karma” to reference “the guy on the Chiefs, comin' straight home to me” and Kelce, who attended countless Eras tour shows while on a break from football, even appeared onstage at the Eras tour during the Tortured Poets Department segment. Many Swifties believe that ”So High School" was written as an ode to the football star, given its “You know how to ball/I know Aristotle” lyrics. (Kelce also said it was one of his favorite Swift songs, all but confirming the rumor.)
Plus, we'll likely see more Kelce-themed lyrics on her forthcoming album, The Life of a Showgirl. Stay tuned for more updates about the music and the wedding — and the combination of the two.
