Timothée Chalamet's Scaly Wool Top Is Equal Parts Weird and Wearable

If you’ve got trypophobia, maybe look elsewhere.

Is the Dune 2 press tour even about Dune 2 anymore? We're not so sure. Judging by Timothée Chalamet's latest outings, every leg of the premiere marathon is full of menswear (and womenswear) that gets sicker and sicker. This time, it's Bottega Veneta, baby!

At a photocall event in London, Timothée Chalamet took a break from his usual Hideo Kojima-coded attire. He waved goodbye to big, big coats by Avellano. He bid farewell to sleeveless mock necks by Hermès. Instead, he continued the left-fieldism of silver breastplates by Givenchy. That meant a good and mad fish scale wool jumper.

Chalamet's particular color was originally made for women (guys got a slightly different all-red version in the latest drop), but Chalamet is universalizing every part of Bottega for everyone. Down below, he jumped into some leather trousers – a Chalamet special – this time in dark brown. He then finished off his fit with a pair of Ripley Boots, all courtesy of Matthieu Blazy's Bottega Veneta.

10 years ago, when he was heading Maison Margiela, Blazy was called “the most famous designer you've never heard of” by The Cut. His collections have always been about experimenting with traditional materials in non-traditional ways.

This became even more evident during his spring-summer 2023 collection with the Italian fashion house, when he made denim jeans and pinstripe shirts out of leather. It's weird while also being intrinsically wearable.

Each “scale” on Chalamet's turtleneck might look like an individual component, but the jumper is actually crafted using a unique knit stitching technique that was developed specifically with pieces like this in mind.

We don't know where Timothée Chalamet and the rest of the Dune 2 cast are heading next. But what we do know is that wherever they end up, the big fits will follow.
