Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet just passed another friendship milestone. The Dune costars were spotted hanging out together at Z's assistant and long-time BFF Darnell Appling’s Freaknik-themed birthday party.
Over the weekend, videos and pictures of Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet at Appling’s private gathering started spreading online after attendees began sharing their memories from the event on social media, and let us tell you, Z and Timmy are starting the summer just right.
The two stars momentarily traded the red carpet and matching vests for a park and custom shirts for the birthday bash. According to a fan account, Chalamet rocked a “Darnell’s Freaknik ‘23” shirt at some point during the day, though his chemise du jour appears to be an Austin Reaves retro jersey paired with kiwi green basketball shorts, Batman socks, and multicolored Nikes.
Unlike Timmy, Zendaya opted for a much more subdued ‘fit for the day, donning a pair of classic low-rise blue-wash jeans, a white halter neck crop top, hoops, and a fresh blowout with a side part.

From multiple snapshots shared across social media, we know that Darnell Appling’s birthday party was held in Los Angeles’ Pan Pacific Park, which is in a central area of the city near The Grove. While we don’t know exactly what went down during the celebrations, we do know most attendees probably closed out their Apple Watch Move Rings — Timmy found himself in the center of a dance circle, and there was a good ol’ line dancing session, which Zendaya herself partook in. The song of choice? Beyoncé’s version of “Before I Let Go.”

Of course, this isn’t the first time Zendaya and Chalamet have been spotted doing friendsTM things during their free time. In fact, the two have been very outspoken about their friendship since filming the first Dune installment together. In the past, Zendaya has said she and Chalamet will be “friends for life.” Chalamet has reciprocated the feeling, admitting that Zendaya has practically “become a sister” to him. And what do real friends do? Share friends! (And tease each other about your very obvious celebrity crush, of course.)
