When he's not winning medals for Great Britain, diving champion Tom Daley can be found knitting, stitching, and crocheting. While competing at the 2024 Paris Olympic games, where he won silver with his diving partner in the men's synchronized 10-meter platform, Daley somehow found time to make his own memorabilia to mark the moment. "It's always so fun to be able to have this as a little bit of a memory from my time here in Paris," he said in an Instagram video revealing his custom Olympics-themed sweater.
The sweater is a bold blend of red, white, and blue to represent the colors of the French and British flag, as well as featuring a patchwork of both flags around the bottom. Each detail paid tribute to Daley's Olympic journey, featuring his initials on one arm and a number five on the other to celebrate his fifth Olympic games. For a varsity feel, Daley knitted his last name in large white letters on the back and Paris 24 with an Eiffel Tower on the front.

The sweater concept was already in the works before the games began, with Daley sharing snapshots of the design process on his knitting Instagram page, Made With Love by Tom Daley.

The athlete shared behind-the-scenes details like the initial sketch, a video of him knitting the very beginnings of the sweater while dressed in his Team GB training kit, and a photo dump of the final look.

This isn't the first time Daley has crocheted his own Olympics souvenir, either. Daley shared an Instagram video breakdown of a cute cream cardigan he made at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. When Daley and his diving partner won gold at the men's 10-meter synchronized platform diving finals, he knitted a cozy pouch for his gold medal featuring both the British and Japanese flags. We can only hope for many more Olympic appearances to see what Daley comes up with next!
