The Met Gala 2025 might be on a Monday, but Tyla started her Met celebrations early, turning NYC into her very own runway ahead of Monday's festivities. During Met Gala weekend, the South African superstar was spotted around New York City wearing three showstopping looks ahead of fashion's biggest night, building anticipation for her final look during the actual event.

The “Water” singer was out and about on Saturday, May 3, around New York City — just two days before she'll make her second appearance at the Met Gala. (ICYMI: Tyla made her Met Ball debut in 2024, wearing a sculptural sand dress by Balmain.)

Tyla was first spotted wearing a vintage dress from Roberto Cavalli's 2004 collection. Styled by Law Roach and sourced from the One of a Kind Archive, the dress was tailored to fit Tyla perfectly, which means she is already nailing this year's dress code.

The patterned minidress featured deep red, gold, and black lace, along with a ruffled, asymmetrical skirt. Roach shared photos of Tyla on his Instagram Stories, confirming he styled her, writing “Got to play with a Dollbaby last night.”

The star was later spotted heading out wearing a silver croc-patterned blazer with matching low-rise pants, also from Roberto Cavalli. She wore the blazer open in the middle and paired it with silver Tequila Sandal heels from Aquazzura. Tyla went without a necklace for the outfit, but instead wore long, dangly earrings as her accessory.

After seeing the two knockout styles, chatter began to spread that Tyla might be wearing Roberto Cavalli to this year's Met Gala. (The singer wore a Roberto Cavalli dress from the late designer’s fall-winter 2000 collection to the MTV EMAs in November.)

However, the singer threw a curveball on May 4, stepping into The Mark Hotel in the city wearing another show-stopping look from British-Nigerian fashion designer Tolu Coker, a Teen Vogue Generation Next alum.

Tyla stepped out rocking a full look from Coker's fall 2025 ready-to-wear collection, complete with a short dress and a matching wide-brimmed big hat featuring an intricate striped orange, brown, and white pattern. Past the vibrant fabric, a signature of Coker, the mini dress was a statement on its own with a construction featuring puffed sleeves, a fitted bodice with corset-style lacing, and a tiered ruffled hem. She paired the look with white socks and matching strappy heels for balance.

Tyla was confirmed to attend the Met Gala 2025 a while back, as she is among the many committee members. This year's theme is “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” while the dress code is “Tailored for You.” According to Vogue, the theme is inspired by Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.

As mentioned above, Tyla made her debut Met Gala appearance in 2024 wearing one of the best looks of the evening. She committed to the theme — Garden of Time — by showing up in a dress that literally looked like an hourglass. It's safe to say she understands the assignment.
