Save a horse, ride a mechanical bull. Cowboy energy was the spirit of the evening at The One Party by Uber: Rodeo this past weekend in Austin, Texas.
The special, exclusive event was thrown in celebration of the F1 United States Grand Prix, which took place on Sunday, October 19 at Austin's Circuit of the Americas. The One Party by Uber: Rodeo, held at a real Texan ranch, was completely free for Uber One members to enjoy all the Western-themed, star-studded fun of race weekend.
Everything's bigger in Texas, they say, and Uber made sure to deliver on that with a resplendent and rowdy night at the rodeo, complete with a bonafide bull-riding competition to kick off the evening, fare from Austin's iconic Terry Black's BBQ and Torchy's Tacos, a fully-operating mechanical bull, and a show-stopping performance by the three-time Grammy-winning Zac Brown Band.
If you had any worries that the yeehaw agenda was dying down, fear not — the cowboy aesthetic is very alive and well. Ahead of the showdown at COTA, seven-time F1 World Champ Lewis Hamilton even released a Rodeo Collection of his apparel line +44, inspired by Austin, Texas.
And attendees at The One Party were also dripping in denim, lace, and leather, their necks adorned with glittering bolo ties and outlaw-inspired bandana neckerchiefs. There were so many takes on Western fashion in the room, it was a smoky feast for the eyes: satin and silk mixed with metallic cowboy boots, flare-bottoms and tube tops, silver hardware from the ears to the spurs, ruffles and fringe flowing with each movement. Suede and fur and wood danced with cow prints and snakeskin and alligator, while Aztec patterns, and elegant takes on tie-dye (à la the “Keep Austin Weird” tees seen all over Austin-Bergstrom International) honored the diverse foundation of Texas.
Uber One members dressed to impress, as did the stars who joined the festivities and danced the night away to “Chicken Fried," like country musician Kane Brown, The Hunting Wives stars Brittany Snow and Malin Akerman, actor Jesse Metcalfe, designer Kendra Scott, and model and reality star Brooks Nader.
“The Western style has come and gone, [but] I feel like Beyoncé revived it in terms of its relevance in our culture,” Nader tells Teen Vogue. “The Cowboy Carter era for me was like, ‘Yay! I can finally shamelessly rock my Louisiana cowboy boots!’ It can be cool again. And I'm so honored to be here in Texas, I'm from the neighboring state, Louisiana, and so I feel right at home with all the Western attire.”
For the The One Party by Uber: Rodeo edition, Nader shares that she decided to lean into “barnhouse” vibes with a long-sleeve Laquan Smith button-down bodysuit — “He's one of my favorite designers,” she says — and stonewashed EB denim jeans, a thick gold-buckled belt, and Saint Laurent heels.
According to Nader, it's virtually impossible for her to not incorporate Western-inspired fashion in her everyday wardrobe, whether it's with cowboy hats during the summer paired with bikinis or denim and leather throughout chilly New York City fall. “I feel like if I don't have a lariat or a bolo tie between my boobs, I'm naked,” Nader jokes. “We always go back to our roots.”
