Back in October, Twitter announced that they would be shutting down the Vine app. "
Today, we are sharing the news that in the coming months we’ll be discontinuing the mobile app," they wrote on Medium, before assuring users they would be able to access their content. "You’ll be able to access and download your Vines," the post read. "We’ll be keeping the website online because we think it’s important to still be able to watch all the incredible Vines that have been made. You will be notified before we make any changes to the app or website."
Now they're making a change, and it sounds like it's for the best. Instead of disappearing, the app will being rebranded as Vine Camera, which allows you to create videos and save them on your phone or share them to Twitter, (although, according to Twitter's FAQ, "you will not be able to do any of the other things you can currently do with the Vine app").
"Here’s what’s coming: in January, we’re transitioning the Vine app to a pared-down Vine Camera," they wrote in a new Medium post. "With this camera app you’ll still be able to make six-second looping videos, and either post them directly to Twitter or save them to your phone."
Here's how it works (also via Twitter's FAQs):
As The Verge notes, if you're using the app, you'll have to make the switch before it officially changes to Vine Camera. Got it? OK good, now please feel free to spend the rest of your Saturday watching the 32 best Vines of all time.
