Applying to college is a stressful process — and refreshing your email repeatedly as you wait to receive your fateful admissions decision is just part that. But it doesn't have to be. Wheaton College in Massachusetts is offering a far more personalized approach to welcoming the incoming class of new students: face-to-face acceptances.
Today, the liberal arts college surprised 75 prospective students in the New England area with real-life, hand-delivered acceptance letters, reports the Associated Press. Wheaton sent out several teams — some of which included the school's president, admissions chief, and even its mascot — to share the good news with the students and their families. Paige Donahue, who was one of the lucky students, told the Boston Globe, “I was shocked. That’s not what I expected at all.”

Some students were surprised in local stores, while one was ambushed while she was attempting to pull out of her driveway. Many were given celebratory balloons and a poster, which read "Yes!" and several then had their exciting moments posted to the school's admissions department's Twitter account.

Dean of admissions, Grant Gosselin, told the Boston Globe that he believes the initiative provides students with a memorable experience that makes it more likely they'll choose Wheaton when making their final decision. Uh, no kidding! Talk about being memorable.
