Welcome to a new season! Summer Solstice 2025 marks the start of Summer, the season many of us look forward to the most. Long, languid days and sweet, celebratory night are just ahead. But before we get into the details of the solstice and how to celebrate, let's get the facts out of the way:
When is Summer Solstice 2025?
This year, the Summer Solstice begins on June 20 at 10:42 p.m. EST.
What is the Summer Solstice?
The Solstice marks the first day of summer and the longest day of the year. The Sun reaches its most northern place in the sky, offering us the “the full glare of the sun's rays for the longest time,” according to LiveScience. The Solstice also marks the sun’s ingress into the zodiac sign Cancer. This means we’ll be tapping into our emotional selves and creating safe spaces to flourish.
Ok, now that the details are nailed down, how should you celebrate the Summer Solstice? It's only right to mark the longest day of the year with some special rituals or doings. From starting a new project to reconnecting with nature, I talked to Narayana Montufar, author of Written in Your Stars: Use Your Saturn Return, Pluto Square, and Other Planetary Cycles to Become Your Best Self, about the best ways honor the start of Summer.
How to celebrate the Summer Solstice
According to Montufar, tapping into the season's signatures is key in your Solstice celebration. In the Summer, that means the garden bounty. “My favorite way to do this is by doing a bath ritual incorporating seasonal elements, specifically, flowers like Roses, Daisies, and Sunflowers with Epsom salt to melt away worries and bring in good energy,” Montufar says. Also key to her Solstice rituals? “Think beach or riverside meditations, visualizations, and rituals incorporating water in its most natural form. ”
Since it aligns with the zodiac sign Cancer, a sign all about family, Montufar says this is a great time to look to your ancestors for guidance. "I suggest adding images of those who have left physically but remain in spirit to your altar,” she says.
In keeping with honoring the new season, you should imitate the Summer sun in how you dress. Wear gold bling as well as yellow, red, or orange colored fits. Watch the sunrise and sunset while wearing those clothes to be at one with the sun and the universe. As the sun rises and sets, state what you were most excited about in the upcoming season. Set intentions by manifesting your goals and what you are most grateful for. Acknowledging what you are thankful for is a fantastic way to give love back to the world.
Since the Solstice connects us to the water element, harboring it for the future by making sun water is essential. Take a cup of water and leave it in the sunlight for 24 hours starting on the day of the Solstice to absorb the vitality of the cosmos. When done, label the container and place it in a safe space until you use it. This celestial concoction will be good for future spells or when you need an energetic pick-me-up. Infusing the water and sunlight will add a lot of pep to your step and magical practices. You can put tarot decks, crystals, and pendulums under the sun to recharge and cleanse them.
Get fired up! The energy of the Solstice is intense because we are looking to the sun to ignite our visions. Light a candle and speak words that will heighten your confidence as the flame burns. Positive affirmations will guide you to a better place of being and feeling. Plus, it’ll give you the strength and ability to keep the positivity in your orb. If you believe in yourself, anything is possible — especially you!
Take a walk outside and forage for items that you can use to make a flower crown for yourself. Once you have arranged the items decisively, place the crown on your head. Dance and frolic around to your favorite tunes under the blissful sun.
