Aries: Love Lies Bleeding
Aries will sit on the edge of their seats when watching this intense neo-noir thriller. It has all the components to be an Aries favorite: action, drama, and passion. Gym owner and heir to crime family Lou (portrayed by Kristen Stewart) falls for bodybuilder Jackie (played by Katy O’Brian). Sparks fly, and also lead them to adventure and turmoil — there is enough excitement in this film to get Aries amped up for days.
Taurus: Those People
Tauruses tend to get caught up in the mentality of loving the one that they’re with rather than finding someone who lights up their heart. The movie Those People touches upon that sentiment when Charlie and Sebastian try to turn a longstanding friendship into a romance after Charlie connects with a pianist named Tim. The desire to stay in a comfortable situation with Sebastian forces Charlie to try and make it work. Will they or won't they? Either way the plot turns out, they prove a Taurean way of thinking: love can exist in myriad different forms.
Gemini: Bottoms
Not to throw shade at Gemini, but they do have a reputation for being tricksters even though they have a heart of gold. All the more reason why the air sign will relate to both of the film’s protagonists and BFFs, PJ and Josie, who play into the rumor that they were both in juvenile detention to create a female “fight club” at school to teach their peers self-defense moves. On the DL it’s secretly a ploy to connect with their crushes — plotting, chaos, romance, and broken bones ensue.
Cancer: Red, White, & Royal Blue
Since Cancer is a family driven sign and shares an unspoken alliance to the parental influences in their lives, Red, White, & Royal Blue is an ideal movie for the water sign to check out. The film centers around the sons of the President of the United States and King of Britain, Alex and Henry, who catch feels over the course of time. In true Cancer style, they protect their hearts by sharing disdain for the other when their parents force them into a fake friendship, which ultimately turns into a secret relationship and much more when they go public.
Leo: Saturday Church
Saturday Church is a movie about finding oneself standing in power and strength, as well as discovering unconditional love not only from others but from the inside. All of these qualify as attributes of Leo, a fire sign who asserts their unwavering devotion to those they value and encouraging the people they care about to lean into their awesomeness. Therefore, this motion picture will warm the golden heart (which is ruled by Leo) of any lion and remind them to spread goodness into the world — most importantly, to love like they've never been hurt and to live freely.
Virgo: Love, Simon
Communication is a MUST for Virgo, especially since the earth sign is ruled by Mercury (a planet that is known for veracity and connecting people together). It’s their love language. So, it’s only sensible that Virgo would flip over a film that focuses on introspection, expressiveness, and sincerity. The movie follows high schooler Simon, who is coming to terms about his own sexuality and his online romance with a stranger. After obsessing via over meeting his crush IRL, Simon is able to get a happy-ever-after ending — even though the person isn’t who he expected.
Libra: Anything’s Possible
Libras are always wanting to understand and unite with their special someone. Anything’s Possible speaks to the way Libra commits to partnerships — hard, true, and fast (when the air sign meets someone they like, they don’t hold back their emotions). When high school students Kelsa, a trans YouTuber, starts dating Khal, a classmate who is dating expert on Reddit, they become the most popular power couple. But their futures may not align after high school. Like the sentiment of this film, Libra believes it’s better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all.
Scorpio: Bit
Scorpios protect themselves against their offenders with venomous stingers, while the characters in this movie bite those they want in their coven and aim to off those they don't. Both are transformative and evolutionary, as they can change one’s state of being. This movie centers around a trans girl named Laurel who is visiting her brother in Los Angeles. Soon after arriving, she becomes a vampire in a quest to fight off toxic masculinity. The metamorphic experience is revolutionary as Laurel and a group of queer feminist vampires clean up the streets and try to restore peace in the city.
Sagittarius: Drive-Away Dolls
Drive-Away Dolls is full of excitement and wanderlust, making it a cinematic feat for courageous Sagittarius. Two besties, Jamie and Marian, go on a last minute road trip from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Tallahassee, Florida. Due to a misunderstanding, they're given the wrong car. The vehicle they receive is meant for an illegal crime syndicate. Hence, the adventure begins. Along the way, Jamie and Marian question if they can be more than just friends (especially since Jamie is a relationship-phobe). These free spirits click and connect, proving their bravery and audacious behavior to the mob and each other.
Capricorn: Fire Island
The ultimate summer movie acts as a modern day queer retelling of Pride and Prejudice. When Noah meets Will, they immediately connect and then spar off. Will is trying to protect Noah and his friends from Dex, who is bad news and torments a member of Noah’s crew after he hurt Will’s pal. Opposites attract, fight, become friends, and then boyfriends on Fire Island. This rom-com will urge even the most reserved Capricorn to speak up and let their feelings be known. The film also is about the importance of friendship and always supporting one’s pals no matter what.
Aquarius: I Saw the TV Glow
I Saw the TV Glow is about two teens growing up in the suburbs who are coming to terms with accepting their own identities, with the underbelly of a supernatural plotline (which Aquarius will enjoy since the air sign gravitated towards science fiction and conspiracy theories). The Pink Opaque is a YA TV show that Maddy introduces to Owen. Years later, Maddy returns after a bizarre disappearance, with theories about The Pink Opaque that force them to question their reality and look inside for the truth (which is a metaphor for being trans, according to the movie’s director Jane Schoenbrun).
Pisces: Mean Girls (2024)
The politics of high school can have an adverse effect on anyone — especially with “The Plastics” running the halls. IKYK the storyline of how Cady’s move to North Shore High disrupts the hierarchy of the student body, especially the lives of Janis and Damian who befriend her. In the 2024 version, Janis and Damian are queer, which varies from the 2004 movie. In this flick, Janis and Damian embrace their personal identities with confidence and don’t let anyone — even “The Plastics” — dictate their narrative as a Pisces would. They choose revenge, a dish that’s best served cold.
