Doechii is a musician, and person, of intentional choices. Back in 2026 she explained that the face tape she gravitates toward is there for a reason: “The face tapes are there on purpose because… it’s c*nt," she said in a TikTok.
That intentionality is in her choice to go barefoot at Met Gala 2026 as well. The rapper wore a beautiful deep purple ensemble, with silky-looking fabric artfully draped over her chest and lower body and a matching purple and maroon hair wrap. All the pieces of her look were working together, bare feet very much included. (Also, her makeup artist Chelsea Uchenna told Vogue the goal was a “dark, feminine look.”)
Her feet are bare, but adorned with anklets and West African henna on the soles of her feet and on her hands, which she said was “grounding” her: “This is art to me, this is human to me. It's vulnerable, it's feminine.”
"It's very comfortable, but also very vulnerable," Doechii explained to outlets on the Met Gala red carpet about her decision to go barefoot, as captured by Variety. “I feel like bare feet, it signifies a groundedness. I'm not scared of the floor!”
