Doechii has made her name clear in music, and now, she's coming for fashion and beauty too. She's earned TikTok-viral hits with “What It Is” and “Denial is a River,” four Grammy nominations and one win, and a spot as one of the performers of music’s biggest night. Along the way, she's sported a number of bold fashion and beauty looks that have landed her a coveted invitation to the Met Gala 2025 as part of the host committee.
Since she has tried out many experimental styles over the years, it’s only natural to wonder what she’ll be wearing on the Met Gala 2025 red carpet. This is not only her first year attending, but she is also a member of the host committee. (She's already been incorporating the theme into her style.) Most importantly, we can't help but wonder if she will be wearing her now signature face tape at the Met Gala 2025 and how it will be included in her outfit(s).
If you haven't noticed yet, Doechii has been sporting face tape and adding it to her stage, red carpet, and event looks for quite some time now. While many people wear face tape to get a lifted effect, it is common practice to cover it up by positioning it farther back on the sides of their face and letting the hair fall over it to keep it concealed. In contrast, Doechii doesn’t cover it up. She proudly wears it, letting the tape show on the sides of her face and placing the connecting the string between each side over her hair instead.
Her unique approach to face tape has gotten Doechii some criticism from online trolls, which she talked about on TikTok with a video titled “addressing the face tape 😒” and clarified that it is indeed a stylistic choice. She summed it up in a simple yet effective sentence: “The face tapes are there on purpose because… it’s c*nt.”
Taking it a step further, Doechii also responded to a comment a fan left in the TikTok video, saying they would stop supporting her if she ever got cosmetic surgery, which she quickly shut down with a much-needed reminder about personal choice and making remarks about women’s bodies.
“She likes exposing something that’s meant to be hidden,” Doechii’s stylist Sam Woolf told the New York Times. “She just thinks outside the box, and she likes being vulnerable, and she likes showing things that you’re not meant to show.”
Doechii doubled down on her decision in her recent cover story with Cosmopolitan, “I like to f*ck things up because to me, it looks cooler that way. I gravitated toward the face tape because it’s supposed to be hidden and it’s not. I’m that type of person. I like to turn my shirts inside out. I like to wear my pants backward. My love for imperfection shows up in my beauty and fashion a lot.”
Doechi’s choice to wear her face tape in a visible way is also part of a larger movement of stars choosing to be less discreet and more transparent about wearing makeup, using beauty hacks, and getting plastic surgery. Celebrity makeup artist Kelly Zhang recently told Teen Vogue, “For years, the overly blended, airbrushed look dominated, but now there’s a shift toward raw, expressive beauty."
While the face tape is one of her signature looks that she often wears, Doechii does go without it at times. It seems like a case-by-case situation depending on the vibes, which leads us back to the question, “Will Doechii wear face tape at the Met Gala 2025?” We can only be certain once she steps on to the red carpet!
