In the past few months, North West has become a TikTok star in her own right. On the account she shares with her mom Kim Kardashian, the 10-year-old posts everything from hair and makeup tutorials to FX content and even travel vlogs to more than 16 million followers. However, some videos end up not making the cut. Case in point: North's Ice Spice lip-sync session, which Kardashian herself has since deleted.
In a new interview with Time magazine, Kim Kardashian opened up about why exactly she decided to delete the video, which saw North in an Ice Spice cosplay 'fit, lip-syncing to the rapper's verse on PinkPantheress' “Boy's a Liar, Pt. 2.”
"As soon as I saw the words, I was like, 'Oh no, we're taking this down,'" Kardashian admitted to the publication, revealing she was out of town when North asked for permission to post the clip. "I saw on the internet, [people saying] 'Kanye was right,' and maybe he was in that instance, but she loves making slime videos and doing her little hair tutorials, and I will fight for her to be creative." (Kanye West famously publicly criticized Kardashian for allowing North to post on TikTok earlier this year.)
Speaking to Time, Kardashian also admitted that co-parenting is "tough," but things like this situation are sometimes "trial and error." She added: "It's always a compromise. No one's always gonna agree, and you just have to do the best as you can as a parent to try to protect your kids, but also let them be creative."
TikTok content
Even if that one video got taken down, there are still other clips of Ice Spice on North and Kim's joint TikTok account, including another less NSFW lip-sync session as well as North's pencil portrait of the Teen Vogue cover star. In fact, it was because of North's influence that Kardashian decided to tap Ice Spice as one of the many faces of her popular brand SKIMS earlier this year.
"Every day, the kids get to switch up whose music they want to plug in and listen to on the way to school, and North was listening to Ice Spice. I didn't know who that was at the time. And I was like, 'This is the moment where I feel really old where my daughter is now teaching me what's cool,'" Kardashian shared. “I then had the idea to put her in a SKIMS campaign so that all came through North and what she likes.”
