Zac Efron's career may have taken him a long way from East High, but Troy Bolton and the Wildcats are never far from his heart. The actor recently revealed that he still thinks about the High School Musical movies on a daily basis.
“I still think about it every day — I sing the songs in the shower,” Efron said while accepting his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. According to the actor, “Breaking Free” and “We’re All in This Together” are his songs of choice for those shower sessions. When a guest yelled an excited, ”Me too!", Efron had the best response: “Go Wildcats!”
The series's director Kenny Ortega and producer Bill Borden were in attendance for the momentous event, and Efron took a minute to shout them out, too. “You guys were both instrumental in giving me my start in High School Musical, and for that I’m just eternally, eternally grateful,” he said.
“You have no idea how I’m feeling right now,” Efron continued in his speech. “It’s so surreal. I’ve been acting and singing and dancing for as long as I can remember, since I was a little boy, but never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I’d be standing here today in front of such dear friends, colleagues throughout the years, and lifelong fans who have been with me since day one. I love you guys so much.”
This isn't the first time Zac Efron has given the HSM universe some love since the original series' end. In 2022, he visited the Salt Lake City high school that served as the set of the iconic East High and posted about it on Instagram. “Don’t you… Forget about me,” he wrote, referencing The Breakfast Club with his caption and pose. (Vanessa Hudgens also visited the school around the same time, so clearly the OG Wildcats still have a lot of love for their Disney days.)
Efron has also said he'd be down to step back into Troy Bolton's sneakers one more time. “Seriously, having the opportunity in any form to go back and work with that team would be so amazing," he said of a potential fourth installment in the series. “My heart's still there. That would be incredible. I hope it happens." Us, too, Zac. Us, too.
