Zendaya and Lola Tung Hopped on the Pixie Cut Trend

Adding a little fun to our week!
Zendaya and Lola Tung

Zendaya and Lola Tung, both media darlings in their own right, decided to have a little beauty exploration this week. Zendaya debuted a dramatic pixie cut in her latest campaign with Swiss sportswear brand On. Styled by Jake Gallagher, the look features spiky bangs and face-framing layers. This look is a bit shorter than the blonde bob she's been rocking the last year. The campaign, directed by Nadia Lee Cohen and styled by Law Roach, presented a futuristic, space-inspired aesthetic, some thinking the timing fell perfectly in line with the space trip attended by pop star Katy Perry and Gayle King. And while we can assume the pixie cut won't last forever, seeing Zendaya rock the fun and trendy hairstyle was a treat for everyone.

Meanwhile, Tung embraced a pixie cut for a fun editorial shoot with photographer Alex Lockett. The Summer I Turned Pretty Star tends to keep her hair and beauty looks rather traditional, so seeing her step out of that through this shoot was a fun surprise. Between the colored updos and slick-back buns, we saw Tung also sport an ultra-short pixie cut which became one of our favorites from the shoot.

The pixie cut's history dates back to the 1950s when Audrey Hepburn popularized the style in Roman Holiday. Over the decades, the pixie has evolved, symbolizing nonconformity and empowerment. In the 1960s, icons like Jean Seberg and Mia Farrow wore the cut as a statement of rebellion and individuality. The 1980s and 1990s saw the pixie reimagined with softer, more feminine touches, embraced by stars such as Cyndi Lauper and Princess Diana and Twiggy. Today, the pixie cut is experiencing a resurgence, particularly among Gen Z. It's now been seen on a slew of popular models, like Anok Yai, Taylor Hill, and Iris Law.
