Zendaya made her Met Gala 2025 red carpet arrival in a gorgeous white suit. The newly engaged actress wore a white suit moment for the event, accompanied by a dramatic hat. To the naked eye, this looks very simple, but we actually saw a hidden meaning — walk with us.
To us, Zendaya's look was a total callback to Diana Ross' classic 1975 film Mahogany. In the film, Ross plays Tracy, an aspiring fashion designer from Chicago who makes it big after being supported by a popular photographer. The film takes many turns but ends with Tracy learning the importance of being grounded.
While there's no word on a remake of this film happening (a girl can only wish!), Zendaya's look appears to be inspired by Ross' in the film. And Zendaya walked the carpet directly behind Ross, who wore a stunning white gown. Passing the torch? We'd like to think so.
Completing the special moment, Zendaya watched as Ross ascended the iconic Met Gala steps and told the crowd, “She's the reference!”
This year marks Zendaya's seventh time attending the Met Gala. She's worn some amazing gowns in the past from Michael Kors and Versace.
On the Met Gala 2025 red carpet, Zendaya walked alone — sans fiancé Tom Holland, but seemingly wearing her engagement ring. The pair's engagement news broke in January, and they were seen together in April on the set of Euphoria season 3.
Update: In his Instagram Stories, Zendaya's stylist, Law Roach, shared that he was actually inspired by Bianca Jagger — Mick Jagger's famously stylish ex-wife. The look is from Pharrell Williams for Louis Vuitton.
