Lady Gaga Was the Queen of Masks at the MTV VMAs 2020

What do you do when the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards goes through major changes in light of a global pandemic and social distancing regulations? If you're Lady Gaga, who has never shied away from making a major fashion statement, you rise to the challenge not only with your wardrobe, but with your face masks too!

Gaga, who initially hit the red carpet in a very Chromatica silver coat-dress, black platform boots, and translucent helmet, changed up her look a few times during the show — and she made sure to add an eye-catching new mask every time she swapped her wardrobe too!

To accept her first award of the night for Song of the Year for "Rain on Me," her duet with Ariana Grande, Gaga donned a kaleidoscopic dress with feathery rainbow fringe details, a futuristic look that fits in perfectly with her Chromatica era. She paired the dress with an equally attention-grabbing hot pink mask that completely covered her nose and mouth (per CDC recommendations!) but also encircled her eyes, almost like a pair of goggles.

When she approached the stage to accept her second award for Best Collaboration with Ariana, Gaga wore a shimmering pastel green princess gown by Christopher John Rogers, which she accessorized with a glamorous statement necklace and a burgundy mask with horns on either side. Her long icy silver hair hung loose to her waist, giving us Game of Thrones vibes.

When it came time for her performance of "Rain on Me" with Ariana, Gaga opted for yet another mask, this time a black mask with a video screen; Ariana opted for a simple black mask with her purple two-piece. Gaga also wore the video mask to sit down at the piano and perform an acoustic ballad-style intro to her first Chromatica single, "Stupid Love."

If anyone can bring their sartorial A-game while rocking a mask, it's Lady Gaga, and she's definitely given us some inspo for the next time we mask up!
