Ever since Kpop Demon Hunters premiered on Netflix, we've all been blown away by EJAE's singing prowess, which anchors the viral soundtrack of the movie. In a new interview with Teen Vogue, EJAE opens up about her time working on crafting Rumi's singing voice and reveals the hardest song for her to sing, which might surprise you.
While the song that has become a singing challenge on social media is “Golden,” where EJAE hits a super impressive A5 high note, that song wasn't as challenging for her to record. (You know, really casual). However, the song that did prove to be a bit of a challenge for her was “How It's Done.”
In the interview, EJAE opens up about the lines she “struggled” to get right, and while she admits that the high note on the post-chorus of “Golden” took some finetuning, mainly because there were so many ways to adapt the intonation, nothing compared to “How It's Done.” Why? Rapping. “The raps are so hard. Danny Chung, shout out. His raps in it were so hard,” EJAE explains. “[It] took [me] way too long, but when I got it right, it was great.”
Elsewhere in the interview, which you can see above, EJAE also reveals that “How It's Done” was actually the first demo she wrote for Kpop Demon Hunters since signing on to the project, with the first draft dates all the way back to 2020, and the last one was actually “Golden.” Talk about full circle!
