Imagine you're a celebrity attending the Met Gala 2022. You're looking your absolute best, getting ready for a night of flashing lights, red carpets, and an exclusive party most people could only dream of… oh, and your ex is there! For many of this year's Met Gala attendees, this was exactly the case, as many famous exes were invited to rub elbows at the high profile event.
Below, see some of the famous exes who hit the red carpet together, but separate.
Vanessa Hudgens and Austin Butler
Longtime partners Vanessa and Austin split in 2020 after nearly nine years together. Austin is currently dating Kaia Gerber (and the couple made their red carpet debut together at this year's Met Gala.)
Jacob Elordi and Kaia Gerber
The Euphoria actor and model dated for a little over a year. “Being able to be with someone I trust, where we don’t want anything from each other, having a safe, steady relationship like that, has really opened my eyes to the possibilities of love and what it feels like to love without conditions,” Kaia said about the relationship back in May 2021. However, the two ended things amicably in November 2021.
Kaia Gerber and Pete Davidson
Pete and Kaia were romantically linked for a short period of time, though they reportedly split in January 2020 as Pete focused on his mental health.
Pete Davidson and Phoebe Dynevor
The comedian and the Bridgerton star started dating in spring 2021 and made their couple debut that July, but broke up shortly thereafter, likely due to busy schedules. Pete is now dating a little-known star named Kim Kardashian. IDK, maybe you've heard of her.
Austin Butler and Olivia DeJonge
Like Pete, Austin was also a repeat offender at the Met, with his Elvis costar and ex-girlfriend Olivia DeJonge (who plays Elvis' wife Priscilla Presley in the upcoming film) also appearing at the event. The two reportedly dated for a short time, though Austin actually attended the Gala with the IRL Priscilla Presley.
Hailey Bieber and Shawn Mendes
Hailey and Shawn actually attended a prior Met Gala together, though their relationship was more in a "zone of limbo," according to Shawn. However, no hard feelings remained after Hailey married popstar Justin Bieber, and the two appear to be friendly.
Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello
Shawnmila may have attended the 2021 Gala together — and gave us the gift of "It's giving Cher" — but they broke up two months later, after dating for around two years. Shawn and Camila claim to still be “best friends.”
Olivia Rodrigo and Sabrina Carpenter
While not exes themselves, Olivia and Sabrina rumoredly share an ex… whether Sabrina's relationship with said ex indirectly inspired "drivers license," we may never truly know.
What we do know, though, is that Olivia has said she doesn't care for the popular narrative that she and Sabrina were fighting over a man. “I don’t really subscribe to hating other women because of boys,” she told GQ. “I think that’s so stupid, and I really resent that narrative that was being tossed around.” Someday it'll all be water under the bridge.
Joe Jonas and Gigi Hadid
Joe — who previously dated Gigi's BFF Taylor Swift — also dated the older Hadid sister. The couple dated for five months before breaking up in 2015. Joe, of course, is now married to Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner.
Dove Cameron and Thomas Doherty
The singer and Gossip Girl star first met while filming the 2017 Disney Channel film Descendants 2 together. The co-stars began to date shortly after, and were together for nearly four years before parting ways in December 2020. When announcing their breakup on Twitter, Dove claimed that she and Thomas “still have love for each other” and “remain friends.”
Brooklyn Beckham and Chloë Grace Moretz
Chloe and Brooklyn were together on-and-off for nearly four years, before finally calling it quits for good in 2018. Brooklyn has since married actress Nicola Peltz.
Ciara and Future
Ciara and Future were once engaged in 2013 — but Ciara called it off in 2014 after rumors of infidelity swirled around her partner. The couple, who share a son, went through a very public breakup. The two even went head-to-head in court in 2016 over a custody dispute, a defamation lawsuit filed by Ciara, and a countersuit filed by Future. Their legal woes officially ended in 2017. Ciara is now married to NFL quarterback Russell Wilson.
Future and Lori Harvey
Future had an even more recent ex at the 2022 Met Gala, with socialite Lori Harvey in attendance. Lori and Future began dating at the top of 2020, making waves as an unexpected couple — but the pair split later that summer.
Future referenced the breakup and dissed Lori in a 2021 song, but Lori has since moved on with actor Michael B. Jordan. (Michael told Harper's Bazaar in 2021 that he “finally found what love was” with Lori, who is now his girlfriend of nearly two years.)
Bradley Cooper and Irina Shayk
The A Star Is Born and Licorice Pizza actor dated the Russian model for about four years, and share a young daughter — however, the couple notably split in 2019.
