Jacob Elordi certainly isn’t the first celebrity to try his hand at method dressing while promoting a film, but he might be the most… on the nose. Press tours are no longer just a time for stars to show off the latest looks from top fashion brands. More than ever, public appearances are a sartorial extension of the character they're playing.
Jenna Ortega, for example, opted for fashion-forward versions of witchy looks that reflected the dark vibes of her character, Wednesday Addams, in Netflix's Wednesday. Famously, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo hit every red carpet on the first (and soon to be second) tour for Wicked, wearing the green and pink colors of their characters, Elphaba and Glinda. And then, of course, who could forget Margot Robbie’s hot pink-filled Barbie year? Elordi, who plays The Creature, a.k.a. Frankenstein's monster, in Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein, opted for a more direct approach to this popular idea.
While appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and at a BAFTA Screening for the movie the same day, the 28-year-old wore black jeans, black loafers from The Row, a tucked gold chain, and a gray crewneck sweatshirt featuring an image of Frankenstein's monster from James Whale's 1931 film starring Boris Karloff in the same role. His hair, while perhaps not intentional, did have some similar qualities to the original monster. It is arguably a great look that he wears often and is probably not a prosthetic meant to convey a sewn-together monster.
Frankenstein releases in theaters on October 17, and while the crew neck isn't official merchandise (it's by Scottish designer Christopher Kane, from his 2013 collection), it isn't a terrible idea for an October look, regardless of whether or not you're starring in the movie. So, you know what, thank you, Jacob Elordi — your chill take on method dressing just gave me my chill take on a not-polyester, bought-new Halloween look.
