Lorde attended the 2021 Guggenheim International Gala on November 17 in New York City and instead of pairing her strapless, pleated apricot gown with a glamorous jeweled necklace, she got creative with her choice of accessories and rocked something a bit more organic: her actual hair.
The musician attended the gala wearing a simple and beautiful pale orange dress with a subtly pleated bodice and full pleated skirt, cinched at the waist with a slim and delicate matching belt. In place of a necklace, Lorde wore her hair tied around her neck almost like a scarf; her hair was worn loose and straight, middle-parted, and tucked behind her ears to easily wrap it scarf-style.
As for other accessories, Lorde opted for a pair of drop earrings and silver huggie earrings, and three rings — including a ruby and diamond ring on her pointer finger, a smaller ruby, and a black and gold stone. She matched her eyeshadow to her dress perfectly and wore a similar glossy shade on her lips, but otherwise, the makeup was minimal. As noted by Vogue, Lorde also performed at the gala, changing into a shimmering gold Dior suit for her set and styling her hair in a braid.
But back to the red carpet. We have a few questions about the hair scarf — namely, was it itchy? Did it tickle or feel weird at first? Did she get creative on the way to the gala after forgetting her necklace? How did the look stay in place? While we may not be trying to recreate a hair scarf for our own daily lives, it's a super cool and avant-garde vibe that suits Lorde's artistic spirit and style.
