Rihanna is officially back. The musician headlined the 2023 Super Bowl Halftime Show on February 12 and did so donning a bright red outfit with some hidden thoughtful touches. Styled by Jahleel Weaver, Rihanna wore a custom Loewe outfit for the occasion. Traditionally, artists lose layers as their performance goes on, but Rihanna actually added pieces for her Super Bowl halftime show.
The Fenty Beauty founder began her performance wearing a silk jersey catsuit in a vibrant crimson hue. The one-piece was paired with a sculpted leather corset, and a cotton flight suit layered over unzipped to show off her baby bump. (After the performance, the star confirmed she is officially expecting her second child.)
"I'm so excited to have been part of this unforgettable moment," Jonathan Anderson, Loewe's creative director, said in a statement. "Rihanna is a true icon, and working with her to bring these stage looks to life feels like a wild, wonderful dream."
On her feet, Rihanna wore matching scarlet MM6 Maison Margiela x Salomon sneakers for easy movement from the airborne platforms to the runway.
Rihanna closed her set with "Diamonds," standing atop a floating stage and wearing a dramatic red Alaïa coat with matching gloves. According to the official André Leon Talley Instagram page, the coat was a tribute to the late fashion icon, who often wore a scarlet Norma Kamali sleeping bag coat.
As fashion writer Eric Darnell Pritchard noted in a tweet, Rihanna and ALT were good friends and that the Vogue legend once called Rihanna's yellow Guo Pei Met Gala dress from 2015 his "proudest achievement," so the coat was a sweet nod to their friendship.
As for her accessories, the singer wore a handful of diamond brooches from Joseph Saidian & Sons, as confirmed by WWD, pinned to the flight suit. She also wore an earful of Messika Jewelry diamond earrings. Her makeup was all Fenty Beauty, of course, and she wore equally bright red nail polish, courtesy of celebrity nail stylist Kimmie Kyees and CND, for a monochromatic vibe.
