The rumors are true: the Cheetah Girls are back for a fourth movie, officially called The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen.
Executive produced by OG producer Debra Martin Chase (who's also behind The Princess Diaries) and star Raven-Symoné, The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen has officially gotten the green light from Disney Channel and Disney+, and it's beginning production real soon with new four leads, including Teen Vogue's New Hollywood alum and cover star Leah Sava' Jeffries.
“The Cheetah Girls has always been about friendship, music, and empowering young people to use their voice,” Ayo Davis, president of Disney Kids & Family, said in a statement. “That spirit connected deeply with a generation of fans, and it still resonates today. Bringing this dynamic new group of young stars to the franchise allows us to continue that legacy for a new era of kids and families.”
Much like the previous movies in the franchise, The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen will be a music-driven production, Disney has confirmed, so you can expect music bops aplenty when the project comes out and likely also a single or two in the lead-up. (The next “Amigas Cheetahs” might be just around the corner!)
The upcoming movie will be directed and co-produced by Bille Woodruff, who was also behind the camera for two episodes of season three of Bridgerton and a couple of episodes of Yellowjackets, among other projects. The script was penned by Kara Holden, Sarah Watson, and Deborah Swisher, with choreography by Kyle Hanagami.
If you don't want to miss a single detail, we've gathered all the information we know about The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen below.
What will The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen be about?
As the name suggests, The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen will introduce audiences to a new generation of Cheetah Girls, specifically the offspring of one of the OGs. According to a synopsis shared by Disney, the movie will begin when Galleria and Chanel, alongside the former's daughter and three of her friends, take a trip to Africa to volunteer at a wildlife sanctuary. “Along the way, these four teen girls test their friendship, find their voice, and discover the true Cheetah spirit as they save the preserve and ultimately take the stage as the new Cheetah Girls,” the logline reads.
To break the news about the upcoming movie, Raven-Symoné posted a video of herself on her Instagram account, teasing the film's setting. “POV: strutting to the set of The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen,” the video reads, showing the star going from the airport to the sanctuary and posing alongside an actual cheetah.

Who is in the cast of The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen?
The cast of The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen features a mix of new faces and familiar talent. The leading roles (a.k.a. the next gen) will be portrayed by Percy Jackson and the Olympians' Leah Sava' Jeffries, who takes on the role of Galleria's daughter, Faith; Electric Bloom's Carmen Sanchez will play Chanel's sister, Dior; Kaileen Chang joins as Ruby; and Sophie Lennon as Brooklyn.
Additionally, newcomer Kamogelo Ramashala—who hails from South Africa, where the movie is being filmed, and was discovered through Disney’s global open casting call—will play Kendi. One Tree Hill's Sophia Bush has also joined the project in a supporting role as Jennifré.
In addition to the new talent, plenty of actors from the original franchise will also be reprising their roles. Aside from acting as executive producer, Raven-Symoné will step into the shoes of Galleria again. Adrienne Bailon, who's also a co-producer, is also set to reprise her role as Chanel, as are Lynn Whitfield and Lori Alter as Dorothea and Juanita, respectively. Sabrina Bryan will also reprise her role as Dorinda in a “special appearance.”
Over on her Instagram, Sava' Jeffries reacted to the news of her casting, sharing a few snapshots, including a baby pic of herself wrapped in cheetah-girl-worthy leopard print and a behind-the-scenes look at the four leads, seemingly from a rehearsal. “I can’t believe I can finally talk about it now,” she wrote in the caption. “I’m so excited for you guys to see a different side of all of us. I’m so proud of everyone! I love my girls and this entire production. I can’t wait for you guys to see everything come together. It’s gonna be so good. And I promise you, we WILL NOT let you down🩷 when I tell you we have barely started and the hard work that EVERY SINGLE PERSON ON THIS SET HAS DONE HERE is INSANE.”
“TRUST ME, I know how much this means to a lot of you to bring Cheetah Girls back, so I will work my hardest every day to give you guys what you experienced the first time you watched the movies,” she ended her post.
